Until recently, the Inuit people led a nomadic existence, sheltering in igloos, the ice-block domes that are peculiar to north-central Canada, and in structures made of stones, bones, driftwood, and skins.

A.Until recently, the Inuit people led a nomadic existence, sheltering
B.During recent times, the Inuit people lead a nomadic existence, sheltering.
C.In the times that are recent, the Inuit people led a nomadic existence, sheltered.
D.Up until recently, the Inuit people, leading a nomadic existence, have sheltered.
E.Until recent times, leading a nomadic existence, the Inuit people were sheltered.

A- looks ok
B- We need verb 'have led' than lead (is my thinking correct.
C- sheltered modifies existence not the entire previous clause
D-Until recently - means the action is complete . Therefore have is wrong need past tense
E- The Meaning has changed, A- Leading the nomadic lie is modifier and no longer the main sentence as in original. Also it says there were sheltered by some X not that they sheltered themselves.
So I think it should a. Is m approach and answer correct

I don't know I feel it should be E but A sounds correct too. But, what bothers me is Sheltering!

Let us wait...

Anyone there?
You can, for example never foretell what any one man will do, but you can say with precision what an average number will be up to!

Hi amnesty17,

Your logic is correct (and the correct answer is the one you chose). This SC is essentially about Modification rules, but each of the wrong answers is loaded with mistakes. This means that sometimes you can answer an SC the "straight-forward" way of knowing the rules involved, but you can also use the "grammar mistakes" of the wrong answers to eliminate them. In this way, you can attack SCs with a variety of tactics and increase your chances of getting your SCs correct.
