According to a recent survey, the establishment of natural parks to preserve existing plant and animal life in Colorado is still a priority of a majority of residents, like that of earlier test groups.

A. like that of earlier test groups
B. at that for earlier test groups
C. just as earlier test groups did
D. as have earlier test groups
E. as it was of earlier test groups

IMO E
it has the correct parallel structure and like is not correct as it is used to introduce example not for comparison.

Although I am not too sure about the reference of 'it' in E, the answer IMO: E

Its the opposite my friend.

You should never use 'like' to introduce examples. GMAT prefers 'such as'.

And

'like' can be used to compare nouns.
Eg: Lyndsy, like her mother, is extremely smart.

I have read some where in the BTG posts that the comparison with the usage of the relative pronouns,that/those/the one etc., has some rules to follow.

1. The structure must be the exact same.
2. There must not be a tense mismatch.
3. The comparison must be sensible.

Though we use these rules to filter the options the one that I am left with is E, by POE.
And moreover there is always the rule about like(comparison of nouns) and as(comparison of phrases).

Please correct me if I'm wrong
