My question here is that if I submit my application in May for early decision then will it be evaluated immediately? Or will it be evaluated in August as said by clearadmit - Application Review Period Begins: August 16th, 2010
I was earlier informed by admissions office that applications should open by July but they suddenly announced on the website that application can be submitted starting sometime this month.
So, I am pretty much in a rush to grab an early offer.

I don't think you should rush getting your application in. Make sure your application is perfect and pristine otherwise getting it in early won't make a difference. Application is available in May... Just make sure you submit it before October 6th.
My goal is to make MBA applicants take onus over their process.

Hi there!
I agree, no need to rush the application. The longer you spend thinking about and drafting your answers, the stronger the entire package. You can also use these extra few weeks/months to talk to more Columbia students and graduates so you can clarify your knowledge of the school and your reasons for wanting to attend.
If you absolutely need a specific answer to the question you posed, however, you may want to consider simply asking someone in the admissions office whether the July timeframe has changed.
Best regards,
