Reading Comp. hitrate just 50% or even below that

Hi there,

altough I am doing quite okay when it comes to the Verbal part, this is mainly due to my solid achievements in SC and CR. My RC results are in urgent need of improvement.

I try to read the passages thoroughly, but as soon as I encounter difficulties in understanding I get nervous and the time clock starts ticking in my mind. Therefore I miss a lot of details.

Any proper strategy to combat something like that? I don't use any specific RC book yet.

I guess it's more about nerves than anything else for you. IMHO, you should read the passage thoroughly once, for the first question. It doesn't matter that you take more that 2 minutes to do this, you'll make up for lost time with the next questions. You are actually expected to spend more than the classic 1 min 45 secs on your first question! If you get this, your nervousness will surely decrease.

I see you are doing OK with CR. RC is basically a longer CR with slightly easier questions. If you bear that in mind you'll see your confidence levels rising. There's no need for panicking and such! You'll do just fine!

Here's some more practice material for RC and CR. You have two LSAT sets, good for advanced practice of these two sections.

Interestingly I am doing quite good when practicing RC questions. Getting 7 or 8 out of 10. I have just completed the first 10 LSAT questions got 8 out of 10.

On the MGMAT mock CATs however my performance is all but satisfactory.

Well that's great news. Official LSAT questions are closer to the GMAT than any other designed-by-test-prep company questions. This means that you might have underestimated your abilities! Happy LSATing!
