Bag A contains red, white and blue marbles such that the red to white marble ratio is 1:3 and the white to blue marble ratio is 2:3. Bag B contains red and white marbles in the ratio of 1:4. Together, the two bags contain 30 white marbles. How many red marbles could be in bag A?

A. 1
B. 3

C. 4

D. 6

E. 8

r:w:b= 2x:6x:9x

B)
r:w=1x:4x

total W marbles = 6x+4x=10x=30

x=3

from A,
r = 2x = 6

hence D

I am not sure if this is the right answer. Here u assumed both bags A and B have same amount of marbles (ie. x) which may not be the case.

but i think there is no other information to solve completely
and also
there is no choice such as "insufficient info"

so 6 sounds logical

My mistake. Dint read the Q properly..
This is one of the possible solutions. The Q stem says "could be". So I guess we can safely assume that both bags contain same #.
