Hi guys

Who knows the answer for sure ?

Of the 60 animals on a certain farm, 2/3 are either pigs or cows. How many of the animals are cows ?

(1) The farm has more than twice as many cows at it has pigs

(2) The farm has more than 12 pigs

I hesitated between C and E

IMO C.

2/3 of 60 Either pigs or cows, so 40 either pig or cow.

Statement 1:) Farm more than twice as many cows as it has pigs.
P = 1, C = 39 or p = 2, C = 38
Insufficient

Statement 2:) Farm has more than 12 pigs
P = 13, C = 27 or P = 14, C = 26
Insufficient

Both together
If pigs more than 12 (13 or more) and less than half of the cows, their must be 13 pigs.

If there are 14 pigs, there are 26 cows which is more than half so violates first statement.

Hence C

P + C = 40

Statement (1) : 10 + 30 = 40 ; 5 + 35 = 40

Insufficient


Statement (2) : 13 + 27 = 40; 14 + 26 = 40

Insufficient


Together, as Mike has pointed out, P = 13, Hence C = 27.
