Hello everyone I need some advice regarding graduate school and the GMAT.
I started to study for the GMAT last month. I have the Princeton Review and the OG 11. Since then I have not
studied much at all. I would say in the last month I have studied a total of 5 hours and only took a quick 30
minute evaluation test which said I would score right around ~540
I have met with 2 graduate schools in the state of Nebraska. I graduated from University of Nebraska-Lincoln in
May and since have been working for a company where I did my internship.
My internship for the company involved much in project management before switching to phone support towards the
end. Since switching the phone support I have been generally unhappy with my life. It was not so bad when I was a
student, but working full time I feel I have a routine life and I am not happy with coming to work every single
day.
My ideal job would be to work in networking/IT at a university having more of a hands on with hardware software
and being able to give my input on projects dealing with updating systems etc.
My offical background is I worked with the University as an IT intern for around 7 months before switching to my
Project Management internship. I did this for one year and then of course graduated and started working in the
summer.
I would like to go back to school at some point because I felt like I was learning something and I do not think I
am done learning. Ideally I know there may be some positions out there that would not require a MS in MIS that would make me happy.
Here lies my problem. Since I am unhappy I am not motivated at all when I come home and therefore it is hard for me to study or even look for other jobs. I felt like if I could quit my job and study for the GMAT and pursue other jobs I would be better off in the long run, but I can not bring myself the quit because I feel like I am letting down my family and I do not understand how insurance etc. works?
The only positive thing I have done since working is saving up enough money to live for around 6 months.
I met with Creighton University last month and I really liked the feel of the professors and the campus atmostphere. They have research positions availible that will grant me free tutition and some living expenses in exchange for working.
This is great because I love doing research on everything now. The only catch is that for me to be considered I need a scored of at least 600 on the GMAT. The program is mainly part time and only roughly 10 percent of the students go full time with around 7-8 positions that are availible each year for them to apply.
I am so nervous about scoring a 600 and I personally do not think I can do it without studying for 8 hours a day. I would like to take the GMAT on Feb. 23th 2009, so that gives me a little over 2 months.
If you are still reading this can you give me any suggestions in life/MBA? Thanks.
