You can't skip the AWA section--getting a 0 on the AWA is a big flag for most schools, and they might think you were too lazy to complete this section.

I wouldn't stress getting a lower score on AWA on your retake--if you significantly improved your verbal/quant performance on a retake but dropped down to a 4.0 on AWA, you would still be in much better shape.

I agree...don't skip it. If you got a 6.0 the first time, you should be in good shape for a good AWA the second time. Just don't completely forget about it when you prep for your retake, and you'll be fine.

Yep - don't skip it. But you can just not do as good a job the second time around. Do a "lighter" job, something that won't take as much effort and energy, so that you are more fresh for the multiple choice portion of the test. Just try to beat a 4.0 the second time.
