Questions regarding app

by iamcste » Sat Jan 10, 2009 3:10 am
Hi Lisa

Can you be kind enough to give few pointers to these questions

1. How and where did you first hear about XYZ

If I write, a few months ago, will this create a negative impression

whats the best answer to such qtns

If I answer many years before, qtn arises "were you sleeping so many days"

If I write just few months ago, I think it may have a minor negative impact

Is it better to write somehwere in betwen 1 to 2 years

2.qtns regarding "whether we can contact your employer"

should we give or not give the contact details

or this is just a formality..no one would call..

3. Illnesses:

If there is nothing major or chronic, is it ok to keep it blank or we just put one sentence and end the qtn..

I do acknowledge that these are quite elementary questions but would like to seek few pointers in this direction

Dear iamcste,

Answers to your questions on application questions:

1. "How and where did you first hear about XYZ?"
You should be honest on when you first started researching the program. It is possible to do thorough due diligence on a school within a few weeks (definitely in a few months), especially if you visited campus.

2.qtns regarding "whether we can contact your employer"
If you do not want the admissions office to contact your employer, then check the "no" box. Some schools might do a background check and that includes verifying employment. So if you feel it might put your job in jeopardy, then you should say "no".

3. "Illnesses"
I have never heard of a school asking this as I don't see the relevance or that it is something you need to disclose unless it will affect your performance in school. Thus I would leave this blank unless you have a chronic condition that you need accommodation for from the school.

Hope that helps,
Lisa
