I have been lurking on this thread for a while and have been interested in doing my MBA but I do not know what I can expect when I graduate.

What kind of career opportunities exist for MBA in International Business? Do you or anyone you know have one? Will I be able to travel around the world?

The other part of my questions is how attractive would I be to a MBA program.
Profile:

I have an undergrad in B. Comm with major in Finance and economics.
I have worked with internet companies mainly doing programming.
I have been teaching English in South Korea for the last 2 years and hence my reason for traveling.

Now I want to change my career but want to make a good living while traveling. I am currently starting to study for my GMAT. As GMAT is just a small step towards the bigger picture.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Regards,
H

Well, of course there are plenty of opportunities out there! But not ALL post-MBA jobs entail traveling. It depends on what you do, of course. International consultant for a specialized area??? You will be traveling a LOT! working in a back office of a bank? Probably not so much.

So, the international MBA CAN you get you that job, and prepare you for it. But you need to find out what that job you want is!

Also, if you are a looking for REALLY international experience, then looking into European MBA programs and learning other languages as well can be great ideas.

Hope this helps!

Thank you so much for your response. I have not dived into what area I want to focus on specifically but I am leaning towards marketing or managing brands in emerging markets. I have always been interested in analysis of new markets and looking at how current markets are trending. I developed this interest from my experience with online marketing. I think a lot of people go into banking after getting their MBA but that discourages me as I do not want to sit behind a desk all day long.

I want a work environment in which:
a) Lead a team
b) work with other people
c) change my workplace i.e. locations and get exposure to new experiences.

I am trying to focus on what program will be suitable for me. Got any recommendations?

Regards,
H

Well, to fulfill your three requirements below there are TONS of jobs out there that would fit. Really, consultancy-type jobs are great for that sort of thing (whether it's technical consulting, marketing consulting or whatever). Obviously working for an industry with lots of mobility (airline industry) can also give you that sort of thing. So, you have thousands of possible jobs. What it sounds like to me is that you are interested in general management stuff. If you are interested in marketing, a good place to start is the US News and World Report rankings on Marketing, of which Kellogg is (still and again) the leader.

That should start you off!
