Hi All, If anyone studying or applying for PT MBA can guide me on some of my questions, it will be great.

Mybackground - I have 10 years of IT experience and in a managerial role. I feel stuck in my current position not able to move further in my career into senior management and the executive roles in the long term. One option is for me to jump to a senior manager / asst. director role in another company, but I am reluctant to do that without am MBA. I feel I am missing multiple aspects to more forward in my career (aspects like how a company is run financially, operationally, getting well versed business development and marketing, etc.,). I have a good GPA from UG (3.8) and was involved in a lots of extra curricular activities during my Under Grad, but not much in the recent years. I am studying for GMAT now. Here are my questions.

1. Would a PT MBA help accelerate my career from where I am now ? Does Post MBA after 10 years of experience (say 13 years of exp when I graduate) add value (in my current company or new company?) ?
2. I am determined to do a PT MBA from top 10 in the US for sure, as I am doing an MBA after 10 years of experience is only worth at a top B School. Is this a fair assumption ?
3. I live in NJ, USA and in order to get into top b school I may end up moving to NY, Chicago or CA. Is it fine to apply for b schools now and later switch jobs to a company near the school after getting my admit ?

Hey dude,
Well for your profile either a PT MBA or EMBA may be good. If you live in Jersey then you shouldn't have problems getting to the NY schools, or maybe even the Boston schools for your sessions. So you could reasonable do the weekend option (in the case of PT MBA), and continue what you are doing.

A PT MBA or EMBA from a well-known school can give you a big boost within your industry, but unlike a FT MBA, it's not really meant for you to discover a new industry.

Best,
JF

With 10 years of experience and management roles, I would also suggest you are right at the border of where an executive MBA might make sense.

I would find the job before I select a school. Some PT programs require some kind of employer commitment. Maybe they will even help you pay for it!
