Question 2:

X,Y > 0 ,If X^3 = Y, is Y a fraction?

(1) X^2 is a fraction
(2) X >Y

x^2 is a fraction
therefore x is a fraction
therefore x^3 is a fraction
therefore y is a fraction
St1 is sufficient

St2 says nothing about x, not sufficient

IMO A -

From the question stem, we can figure out that if 'y' has to be a fraction,then 'x' has to be a fraction too..

Stmt 1 - x^2 is a fraction.

This implies 'x' has to be a fraction.
Hence 'y' will also be a fraction
Sufficient

Stmt 2 - X>Y

Insufficient.

x2is fraction so x is a fraction >0, so x3 is fraction too, A suff

x>x3>0 only way it is possible is if 0<x<1, so x is a fraction, x3 is a fraction, B suff

IMO - D

statement 2 - we can conclude that x != y because x > y

therefore x and not equal to 1. Now there is only one possibility 0 < x < 1.
