Question about asian applicants

It seems there are a lot of asian (chinese +indian) candidates and being an chinese myself i have a few questions...

1. Is there a different consideration among the location of the asian group? I am us citizen but chinese so is there a difference between me and someone from india/china?

2. i have a gmat of 720 which is decent, but is it poor compared to the asian crowd? Just wondering how adcom views my score as a candidate or an asian candidate where the mean seems to be higher than what i have? And should I retake then?

I understand there are other factors such as interviews, essays etc. but am curious what else I can do to differentiate?

Dear shaselai,

You will be evaluated against other US citizens (domestic) applicants at US business schools, in addition to the whole applicant pool. When you see posts about the large number of Chinese and Indian applicants, they are referring to applicants currently living in/citizens from China and India. Your GMAT score is a great score (congrats!) and competitive for any school on that component. Decisions are made on more than a GMAT score, so your admissions decisions will come down to how strong your overall application looks, but your GMAT is a great score for any school. To differentiate yourself, you need to highlight unique aspects to your background and your professional accomplishments--set yourself apart from those with a similar bachelor's degree or work experience and make a compelling case for your admission to the class.
