The sequence a1, a2, … , a n, … is such that an = 2an-1 - x for all positive integers n ≥ 2 and for certain number x. If a5 = 99 and a3 = 27, what is the value of x?


A. 3
B. 9
C. 18
D. 36
E. 45

Is answer A?

A4=2(27)-x
A4=94-x

99=2(94-x)-x
99=108-2x-x
-9=-3x
x=3

Friendly request: Please make sure you include the signs correctly in the problem

a ^ n = 2 * a ^ (n-1) - x is a whole lot easier to read and understand what the problem is really referring to. We can figure it out but sometimes assumptions can bite u in the back when providing solutions..

Also please incldue the official answer iusing SPOILER function.

Eg: [spoiler]OA:WHATEVER THE OA IS[/spoiler]
