19). If anyone at InterCom Financial Advisers would have anticipated, or even suspected, the impending sale of the Koniko kelp processing plant, they would have advised owners of Koniko stock to unload all shares immediately.

(A) If anyone at InterCom Financial Advisers would have anticipated

(B) Had anyone at InterCom Financial Advisers anticipated

(C) If any people at InterCom Financial Advisers would have anticipated

(D) If any people at InterCom Financial Advisers had anticipated

(E) If anybody at InterCom Financial Advisers anticipated

OA is D I am not clear about the difference between option C and D. What is the difference between the two ? "would have anticipated" and "had anticipated"

as you can see the second clause starts with a plural pronoun "they"..

thus A,B and E.. is out..

out of C and D.. D is correct..

C is wrong because

1st) there are two conditional words used in the same sentence- if and would.

2nd) we dont need a present perfect tense, the act of anticipation got completed in past itself.

Also it is better to keep the sentence in the simple past to make it parallel to the verb "suspected"...

thanks..

thus D

In past if you talk about future... use would

e.g : Rave said yesterday that he would not come.
