Queens or Smith?

by singhsa » Sun Feb 12, 2012 11:44 am
I've been accepted at both Queens school of business, Canada as well as Smith School of Business, U of Maryland. These programs are totally different.
Queens - 1 yr prgm
Maryland - 2 yr prgm

Queens (Q) - #2 international school by BW
Smith, Maryland (M) - ranges b/w 40-45 as far rankings are concerned

IMO,
Q - more academic intesive
M - more research oriented, stronger community

my goal is to start my own venture after gaining the right mix of knowledge from a B-school. Place is not a matter of relevance. Also, considering that both prgms are similarly priced, the choice gets more difficult.

Please experts and members, I really need your help in deciding this very important decision of my life.

WHICH B-SCHOOL SHOULD I PICK?

Hi singhsa,

Given both the schools have good MBA program now it's your decision on which schools fit your parameters better. We can help you with what these parameters should be the best way to choose a B-school is based on career goals. You need to see if the schools will help you realizing those goals. Apart from that factors like what the school specializes in, geography location including urban/rural factor, size of classes in school (big class or small class), alumni success rate. Also you need to keep in consideration what recruiters tend to come on campus.

You can talk to alumni's and career center wings to know further the opportunities the school provides you.

Yep. Also think about where you'd like to live and work! That can be important too.

Thanks Kavita and John!!!

There is no doubt that geography and alumni success matter a great deal. But the thing is that geography is of little importance to me. I intend to be a global player so I'm neither going to settle in Toronto nor in DC area.

Can you let me know which B-school has a better reputation for entrepreneurs/marketing and which will be more recognized once I travel overseas (say, maybe to India)

Thanks
