ok dont konw if this is the right section but...

i was looking over the free flash cards and on page 32 i see this

V: RC: Qualify

To qualify a claim is to weaken or soften it.


i know its minor but....but how does qualifying a claim weaken it? i get the opposite intuitively?

anyone?

Qualifying a claim demonstrates that a claim cannot stand alone to fit all cases. Here's an example:

Claim: Coke is the tastiest drink in the world.

Qualification: that is, if you like soda
Qualification: that is, if you like the taste of cola to begin with
