Dear Friends,

I was having problems in answering the following question.

According to public health officials, in 1998 Massachusetts became the first state in
which more babies were born to women over the age of thirty than under it.
A. than
B. than born
C. than they were
D. than there had been
E. than had been born



Please help.

OA after some discussions.

My choice is option B.

C D E cannot be answer choices
C - they seems to refer to the babies - wrong
D - tenses must be same were born is simple past had been is perfect tense - wrong
E - same tense pblm as above.

Mixed bet A/B. Both doesn't make any sense :(
Getting defeated is just a temporary notion, giving it up is what makes it permanent.

"than to women" would've been perfect but in its absence, i'll go with "than"

Meaning error in C
Tense error in D,E
In B women are compared to babies .

So, Definitely A

The meaning here is that more babies were born to women over 30 than under 30. It's a fairly clear comparison, so A is a keeper.

"born under (the age of 30)" confuses the meaning, and so do the other answer choices
