I would pick A here as I am not able to find any problem with A. "It" refers to surface and is non-ambigous so no problem.
D - unnecessarily including word "YOU"..repeating word "Surface" again n again..same problem with E.
B and C swallows the word "apply" and this changes the meaning from "Primer" to "prime" - is it some prime no we are dealing with
