There is no disadvantage to round 2 versus round 1, but you don't want to wait until round 3. With the increase in applications expected this year, I suggest you submit your application as soon as possible without compromising quality.

While candidates with PhD's are not common in the MBA applicant pool, they are not rare either. It will be important for you to clearly convey why you want a MBA and how it makes sense for your career goals. A part-time MBA program is worth the time, effort and money if it makes the most sense for you and your desired career path. Part-time programs generally attract folks with a little more work experience (avg. 6-7 years) than a full time program. Part-time programs are designed for folks wanting to stay on their current career path and/or in their current industry or company. It is not the best option for those wanting to make a significant career change.
