Hello,
Would really appreciate if anyone can evaluate my profile and advise areas I need to work on. My main concern is that I belong to a large Indian IT applicant pool and want to understand what I can do to stand out.

Profile:
Nationality: Indian
Education: B. Tech (Engineering)
GPA: 3.2
GMAT: 720, 5.0
Designation: IT Business Consultant
Work Ex: 8 yrs IT Experience, mostly in US. Supporting family business (as an Advisor) in India since last 12 years.
Extra Curricular: Executing various innovative small IT projects part time. Providing Career consultation to students in under-developed areas.
Career Progression: Promoted frequently. Moved from Technical to Business Role coz of extra initiative. Lead various teams and handled multi-million dollar accounts.

Target Program: FullTime MBA

Target Schools:

Stanford
Columbia
Chicago
Kellogg

Hi Monk,

Thanks for your post. You have a solid profile with good work experience and a good GMAT score, and you can be competitive for the schools on your list. The biggest challenge you face in your applications is standing out in the applicant pool. As an IT professional from India, you are part of a very large applicant pool - most of which have similar professional experience and academic profiles.

The key to a successful application are your essays. Try to find things to write about that are unique to you. Regardless of job or industry, work related essays can all start to sound the same. Try to incorporate leadership and team examples and experiences from outside of work. Often these examples are more interesting and engaging.
