Hi

I am planning for an mba in 2012...My profile

GMAT : 640 Giving again in 2-3 months
Work ex: 13 months in accenture as a software engineer and about 2 years as an entrepreneur
GPA 3.2
extra ciriculars not that great but i am into music a lot and can play saxophone and guitar

I am aiming for HKU NUS NTU and rotterdam majorly.

Please let me know your thoughts

Dear ankurverma87,

For the schools you are targeting, you do want to increase your GMAT score into a more competitive range. Ideally, you want to be above the average for these programs. To further strengthen your profile, you want to build your resume by seeking leadership opportunities at work (both projects and people/teams) and find some organized extracurricular activities to participate in. When the time comes, you do want to put quite a bit of effort into your essays and selecting the best recommenders as these components are equally important and are where you will differentiate your application from similar applicants.

Hi Lisa

Thanks for the prompt reply. About the organized extracirricular activies could you be more specific as to which activites. I have worked for an NGO here would that have an effect on my application?

Yes, working with a community organization, like a NGO, is something you should include in your application. If you have served in a leadership capacity, such as organizing an event or project or coordinating other volunteers, you will want to highlight that as well. With an education and/or experience profile that is common in the applicant pool, these types of activities can help to differentiate you from those similar applicants.
