Just a quick summary:

* 690 GMAT (88th percentile) Q45 (72nd) V39 (87th)
* 3.6 GPA from Michigan State University's Honor College
* B.A. Supply Chain Management (part of MSU's business school)
* 5 years in consulting (2.5 years with IBM, 9 months with boutique - laid off, 2 years with another small firm - laid off 2 months ago). Large and global projects, some leadership experience on projects
* Volunteer at a local pre-school and run a late night basketball game on Saturday nights for boys in Brooklyn
* Tons of great extracurriculars and impressive leadership positions in college
* Recommendations will come from a former supervisor at IBM, a client from my most recent firm and a colleague

Targeting:

* Top Choices - NYU, Yale, Chicago, Duke, Dartmouth, Cornell
* Good Fit (I think?) - Carnegie Mellon, UNC, UVA, U of M
* Safety - Georgetown, Indiana, Notre Dame

Hello,

Good GMAT, great GPA, solid work experience, interesting field (supply chain is hot), presumably good references. However, you will have to be very careful that schools don't think you have decided to go to business school just because you are out of work. Be sure you demonstrate that you are using this time for something that will contribute to your skills and broaden your perspective, and not just to relax and work on applications.

College activities are nice, but since they were 7 years ago I would soft-pedal them. Your best bet would be to position them as part of a long-term interest by showing how they naturally evolved into more recent extracurriculars.

Schools may want a reference from your most recent employer - other than a client. Some will ask for an explanation if you aren't using a current or most recent supervisor. Think about how you will address that.
