GMAT: 610 (Q:47, V:28)
GPA : 3.4
Experience: 3 yrs
Industry: IT (ERP)
Home Location: India

My School choices:
1.Chicago Booth
2.Cornell Johnson
3.Ohio Fisher
4.NYU Stren
5.Berkeley Haas

My questions:
1. In light of my low score, what schools would be a safe bet?
2. What additional factors would help strengthen my application?
3. Should I start preparing for a retest soon?

Dear Aaragorn1984,

You are generally most competitive where your GMAT score is above the average for the school. Thus your target list is quite a reach for you based on the information you posted. I do think you should retake the exam and try to get your score closer to a 700 if possible. I also think you should start researching schools with GMAT averages in the 630-690 range for some other options. Your GPA is around the average for most programs, and you have an overrepresented education and experience profile. Therefore, you will need to present a strong set of essays and recommendations as well as a strong interview to have a shot at the schools you apply to for admission. Finally, you will need to distinguish yourself from the other applicants with similar profiles and make a compelling case for your admission.
