Hello Stacy & Lisa.

I was wondering if you could evaluate my profile:

- GPA, major, school
GPA: I don't know, It is probably between 3 and 3.5.
Major: Bachellor Computer Science, 2005.
School: Southamerican unknown university.
-----
Graduate Studies:
Management of Technology Diploma, 2008.
GPA: Probably 3 - 3.5.
School: Another southamerican unknown university.

- GMAT with breakdown
690 Q47 V38 AWA 5.0

- resume highlights, including company name, job titles and promotions
Senior Consultant, Big 4 in a small southamerican country. Promoted in june 2008.
International experience: Worked in Spain during 2006, in a software implementation project (required to travel to Belgium).
Former University Teacher Assistant.

- extracurricular involvements
During university, participated in pro-bono software project.
Currently, helping with IT problems an institution which teaches handicapped people.

- awards, patents, publications, etc...
Top 10 student in university class (out of 60).

- interesting personal facts - countries lived in, challenges faced, unusual interests
Lived in Spain and small southamerican country.
Challenges: adapting to unknown culture and finding a job in a new country being completely alone.
Not unusual interest, but sports fan :).

I would like to go to a top 10 US school, preferably MIT or Berkeley. Do you think I am a good candidate?

I heard competition this year will be very tough. Do you think I need to strengthen some part of my application??

Thank you very much in advance !!!

Regards,

UYMBA

Dear uymba,

Based on the information you posted, you have a chance at a top 10, but the ultimate decision will depend on how well you put together your overall application. Your GMAT is below average and your GPA is probably around the average for these schools. Thus your essays, recommendations, and interviews will need to be outstanding and make a compelling case for your admission. I would encourage you to consider applying to a few schools outside the top 10. There are many strong programs in the 11-30 range, and all applicants should apply to reasonable/safety schools in addition to reach schools. Also, you might want to consider becoming active with a community organization outside of the office.

Good luck,
Lisa
