Profile evaluation

by SmitaBiswas » Fri Jun 29, 2012 9:10 pm
Hi,
I graduated with an engineering degree in Information Tech in 2006.

I have about 5+ years experience in Market Research and am currently a team lead at a Market Research firm. Over the years I have had several roles but my primary responsibilities have revolved around data analysis, project management, business development and internal practice building efforts.

I have a score of 600 in GMAT and I will not be able to take the exam again.

In this regard I have 2 questions

1. Where can I get information on schools that are known for their MBA Marketing Programs?
2. Which schools look like a good fit based on my general profile mentioned above

Thanks in advance for your response.

-Smita

Regards,
Smita

Dear Smita,
1. A good place to start is here: https://grad-schools.usnews.rankingsandr ... g-rankings. But with a 600 GMAT and without the possibility to retake, these ranked schools might be a bit tough for you to get into.

2. So which schools? Basically you need to find schools where your profile and GMAT and all the rest fit in more or less with the school. So schools like Boston University, Mays, Michigan State, Tippie, might all be good options for you, depending on your other needs (program size, location, etc. etc.)

Thanks Jon - this is a good starting point.

I've begun researching schools, but apart from looking at the average and %tile gmat scores of admitted students, is there a way to find out which schools are more focused on scores versus those that may value experience more?

Have a happy holiday!

Thanks
Smita.

Smita,
Sure. Besides looking at just the mean GMAT also have a look at the GMAT high and the GMAT low and the ranges of GMAT (of the middle 80% for example) These statistics are widely available on the Internet and in other sources, and if you see that a school has a wide range of GMAT scores then you now that they are more open to other sorts of profiles. If you see how ever that they keep it strict (i.e. a smaller range, especially on the low side of things) then you know that they are a bit less amenable to lower scores.
