Hey there!
Good to hear back from you.
I think your school list is pretty good now. You have some tough schools and some schools where you will be competitive. So that's good!

As for the "operations" major, I think it ultimately can be a good reason for you to select a school, but ultimately, as you have guessed, overall quality of the program is more important. A major in B-school will be 2-3 classes and not much more than that (unless you do a combined program) so go with the school first and the major second.

I hope this helps!

Best,
Jon

Hey Jon,

Thanks a lot for your reply !
It really changed my perceptions.

I have now shortlisted a few universities-

University of Texas Austin McCombs School of business
Indiana U Bloomington Kelley School of business
Ohio State University Fisher School of business
Georgia Tech Scheller School of business
Penn State University Smeal School of business
Michigan State University Broad College of Business

Kindly let me know if i can be a prospective of the above universities.

Also, i want to major in Operations. Should i shortlist universities based on "Operations" program ranking or overall university ranking ?
I believe when a university is overall ranked well, its programs are automatically renowned and it attracts better job opportunities than the other.
Kindly provide your perception of the same.

Thanks a lot again !

Regards

Hey dude,
Good to hear from you.

Sooo with your GMAT and profile (Indian/IT/Male) things will be competitive to say the least! Smile

McCombs is a good option, but likely a stretch school for you as it is sought after by many many Indian applicants. Doesn't mean you can't or shouldn't try though!

However with your current GMAT score, I would suggest adding a whole bunch of schools from the 20-50 ranking.

So that's from a technical perspective, but in truth the HUMAN side of the question is just as important - who are you? what makes you unique? what do you aspire to do? The STORY behind your application is just as important as the facts themselves, and I would highly suggest you get working on THAT part of the application, as it will be determinant in your admission.

I hope this helps, and if you have any further questions do not hesitate,

Best,
Jon
