Hi. Here's my profile:

1. B. Tech. in Mechanical Engineering from a reputed university in India. CGPA 7.27/10. Graduated in 2007.

2. GMAT 750 (Tentative)

3. Working as a mechanical engineer since 2007.

4. CFA Level 1 and Level 2 qualified.

5. Insignificant extra-curricular activities so far. Can manage strong recommendations. Got promoted in three years under the 'outstanding' category, the best there is.

6. I'm planning to start doing some work for a couple of non-profit organisations to brush up my extra-curricular achievements but I'm not sure if one year of such work is going to help much.

7. I do not have a finance background but I'm CFA L1 and L2 qualified which, I believe, will help my cause since I'm planning to make a career in finance.

I'm aiming for the top 10 B-Schools. Kindly perform a profile evaluation considering I fail to get any significant extra-curricular achievements in the next one year.

Dear cheesenchocolate,

Top 10 b-schools are fiercely competitive as they have large applicant pools for a small number of seats. As such, you will want to have a strong application package that gives many reasons to admit you and no reason to pass on your application. You have a common profile in the applicant pool so it is imperative you find a way to distinguish your application from numerous other applicants. Use your essays, recommendations, resume and interview to set yourself apart and make your case for admission. Failing to have significant extracurriculars could be a problem in this regard as it is an aspect where similar applicants can outshine you. I would not say it will make admission impossible for you, but you do want to ensure the remaining application components are strong to mitigate any potential concern.
