Well, sicne we are talking about MiM programs, really a higher GMAT can REALLY help you out a lot, since it's the primary point for consideration (along with your academic success) as you don't have that much work behind you.

As for your goals, actually for an MiM, things are more flexible than for an MBA, because you haven't yet worked that much so you have a plethora of stories which you could tell. The one thing I would suggest though, is to try and find a story so that you don't "throw away" the entirety of your previous studies... somehow civil engineering should give you SOME basis of knowledge or skills for your final goals if you can.
