Hi all.
Would be most grateful if you could kindly give me some advice.
I am from Hong Kong and planning to attend grad school in the states.
Below is my profile:
1. Completed undergraduate in the states (in Oklahoma) with a GPA of 3.9, majored in Accounting
2. Scored 570 on the GMAT
3. 3-year sales experience
4. have been working at a well-known US investment bank in Hong Kong for almost 1 year
5. 2 strong recommendations from professors and 1 strong reccommendation from employer
I am not planning to attend any top 50 schools, just want to complete a master degree in accounting with an assistantship and hopefully by the time I graduate I am good enough to sit for the CPA exam.
I have applied to Boise State University. How likely will I get accepted with an assistantship?
I paid my way through 4-year university. Any other schools I should try?
Also, should I retake the GMAT to increase my chance?
Thank you so much for your kind response in advance.
Profile Evaluation Please - GMAT 570 & GPA 3.9

Hello soccergal, thanks for your question.
First, I must admit that my expertise is mostly in MBA programs, not Masters Degrees in accounting. But, here is my advice:
Do you need a Master's Degree to get a CPA? I believe I have acquaintances who sat for the CPA without a Masters and work experience. Or, do you wish to obtain a Masters in accounting for another reason?
I would do some research on Boise's State's program. What is the average or media GMAT score for members of its incoming or most current class? That will give you a handle on the GMAT score to aim for.
Finally, are there particular reasons why you chose Boise State? I'm sure there are alternative programs you could apply to, as well, to increase your chance of admission.
I hope this helps!
Best of luck,
Brian
