Hi everyone,

I re-wrote my gmat today and got a disappointing score of 560 and debating with myself whether to take the gmat again or to start application process. A brief background and objective for myself:

Bachelors: graduated as a computer engineer from an avg ranked university in India with a 7.68/10 GPA (I still need to figure out a way to convert it on a scale of 4)

GMAT: First attempt in Sep, 2011 (Q44, V21, AWA 4, Score 540)
GMAT: Second attempt in Nov, 2011 (Q44, V24, Score 560)

Experience: 4.5 years in IT industry working as a Programmer and onsite team lead in Insurance domain. out of these 4.5, 2 years of work-ex is in USA.

Target school: I was targeting universities like University of Southern California (Marshall), Cornell (Johnson), UCLA (Anderson), ISB but at this score looks like these would be difficult so I am now open for an average ranked university also.

Programs: Full-time two year MBA

Objective post-MBA-graduate: start as analyst

Right now, I am debating that I should start my essay writing process so I can meet the round 2 deadline or register again for my 3rd GMAT attempt and apply either in later rounds or next year. also would writing GMAT 3 times have any negative impact on my applications? is there any other schools that you recommend for my career path? I understand that my verbal needs major improvement.

Rachita,

Yes, your GMAT score is probably too low for the schools that you mentioned. It is particularly more difficult because you belong to Indian demographic with IT background. As far as ISB is considered anything less than a 700 is probably a little too tight.

It would be worth giving another shot at GMAT if your test scores were considerably better than the actual scores that you got in the test. Otherwise, think about applying in R2. R2 deadliaren'trent there until Jan and it should not be too difficult to apply to some business schools. Hi Rachita,

3rd GMAT attempt is fine, 3rd round application (for internationals) is not.

Your post MBA goal of starting as an analyst is a general one, and can be achieved at almost any good B-school. The problems (or the options) in front of you are exactly as listed by you: should you retake the GMAT and apply next year or should you settle for lower ranked schools... The schools you have listed will be extremely difficult with an IT background and a low GMAT.

Since there is not enough time to take another GMAT attempt & also apply in the 2nd round, I would suggest you to rethink your list; a good starting point is by looking at average GMAT of schools. Also take a look at non-US schools and apply to some places this round with the best application that you can craft.You do have some advantages in being a female (?) and having international work experience.

Thank you so much guys for your suggestions..They were really helpful... At this point I am thinking of applying for R2 for some average ranked colleges having avg GMAT score 630 or so ...If I could not make it I will go for GMAT again probably for next year...If you can suggest some good universities which could be worth spending so much money at this score that would be great...
