Hi,
I am a fresher. I wish to apply for MiM program in London Business School, HEC Paris or IE.
I wish to know about my chances for getting into these colleges.

GMAT score - 720.
Academic profile-
Engineering in Computer Science from Apeejay Colege of Engineering. (a very average college)
I dont know how to convert the percentage to GPA, but I am pretty sure it would turn out to be around 2.7 - 2.9, which is very low.

Co-curriculum profile -
-Pursued Sales and Marketing certification course from IIT Delhi
-National delegate at 1st International Youth Forum in India
-National IT Aptitude Test-- 97%ile
-AMCAT, which is an employability test, scores as follows
English - 93%ile, Quant - 99.4%ile, Logical reasoning - 99.7%ile and Computer programming - 95%ile.
-eLitmus, also an employability test, 97.96%ile
-social media promoter for a company called Fveda
-am in my college football team, won a couple of tournaments
-completed airtel delhi half marathon twice
-I have been in the organizing committee of a various events in college, such as, Athletic meets, college fests... also a member of a committee called Cryptex in college, we were responsible in organizing various technical workshops,seminars and competitions in college

Can you please give me your opinions whether i stand any chance in LBS, HEC and IE?
What I can do to improve my profile in an year, as I am planning to apply next year for the batch that starts in 2014?
Also, suggest me some top colleges where I can apply with my profile.
Should I retake the GMAT to improve my chances?

Hi, rijul007,

Thanks for your post. From an academic standpoint, as you point out, your GPA is on the lower end for these programs. If there is an explanation for your performance and/or significant improvement as you progressed, you can point that out succinctly in an Optional essay. Your GMAT does help to balance the GPA somewhat, assuming you achieved around an 80th percentile for the quant and verbal sections. Since you have time, you could consider taking a quantitative class and acing it as another data point of your academic ability.

You don't mention your career goals or work experience, but you will want to be sure to communicate a compelling story to the admissions committee about where you want to go and what skills/experiences you have already that will make you successful in that path. You can also distinguish yourself through examples of leadership in community service (keep to past 3 years) and personal stories that have shaped you. Given you have a year before you are applying, you can build on your work experience, refine your career goals, and add some meaningful community service. With enhanced qualifications, you will have a better shot at your target programs.

Hi Susan,

Thanks for your prompt reply.

1. Can you suggest me some institutions where I can take up these extra classes online/distance learning?

2. If I retake the GMAT and score a 750+ score, would things get any easier for me? Or should I just stick to 720?

3. Is working for a company part-time(not an internship or training) added to work experience?
