Profile Evaluation for Haas

by wazizzyk » Mon Dec 10, 2012 7:35 am
Hi all,

I'm interested in attending Haas for a number of reasons. I think my profile is pretty unique but it's a bit jumpy so I'm curious to see if I'd actually stand a chance.

Graduated from a top-tier small liberal arts college with a 3.16 in Political Science.
During summers I worked at high level Political campaign organizations in DC. I also started a student group that helped enable a new major and increased enrollment in a certain language class by 300%. I also started a scholarship program for international students that's raised 500k so far. It was a culture changer on campus, that's how I sell it at least. I also had worked at a High Level on the Obama Campaign in 08, taking time off of college to do so.

After I graduated, I got a job as an Associate Producer at Al Jazeera English in Washington DC. I eventually got moved to the Newsroom, and then they started a massive round of layoffs and I got laid off after being there for a year. I dawdled and traveled for about 3 months and then took a paid internship with an International Development firm, spending a year there, doing project management and proposal development. I got tired of that and decided to get back on the campaign trail. I jumped on the Obama Campaign this past year and got promoted up pretty quickly. I had a pretty prestigious position as a press advance lead, travelling everywhere with the first lady. I'm not working on the Inauguration, and will likely have a job in the new Administration.

After all that time in politics and activism, I came to the conclusion that the business world, it's efficiency and demanding culture, are much better avenues to create political change. I also enjoy the lifestyle and I think entrepreneurship, management and consulting give you a great set of expertise for anything one decides to do.

I have yet to take GMAT because everytime I get into my studying earnestly there is some massive change in my life like travelling non-stop. I'm shooting for 700+.

With this profile (and a Gmat between 680 and 720), would I have a good change of getting into Haas? and If not Haas, what should I be shooting for? Thanks for any insights anyone can offer...
