Profile Evaluation (Do I have a shot with a 690)?????

Hi,

I scored 690 (Q44 V40) on the GMAT. I think that the essays I wrote to the schools listed below are pretty solid, however I'm inclined to think that my "low" quant score is going to give me trouble. I'm attending a top tier garduate school of engineering in Brazil. Last week I received an e-mail congratulating me because I currently rank#1 in the class - is it a good way to mitigate the 44?

Profile:

- Male, 33, Brazilian, Engineer
- 7 year experience in the Telecom industry
- Ugrad GPA (while at University of Maryland) 3.4/4.0. Then got transfered to a Brazilian top-tier school where I got a 6.6/10.0
- Grad GPA 2.7/3.0 --> Currently ranked#1 in the class
- GMAT: 690 (Q44 V40)

Target Schools:

Booth
MIT
Berkeley
Kellogg
Tuck
Ross
Duke

In which one of those can the 44 hurt me the most or even keep me out of the dispute??????????

THANKS VERY MUCH

Dear brz,

Your 44 on the quant section of the GMAT will not result in an automatic rejection at any school. It is a solid score, and when combined with your work experience and good performance in quantitative coursework, you will present enough evidence of quantitative aptitude for business school. I do think you need to forward your email on your class ranking to your target schools or send a hard copy in to the schools to be included with your application. Since the grading scales are different, it will help to show your outstanding performance in your master's program.

Best of luck,
Lisa

Lisa,

I've already submitted one of my apps without the #1 rank information. Do you think that it's a good idea to send the adcom an e-mail with such data before an interview invitation? Can the committee interpret this action as a desperate act?

I'm seriously thinking about sending it, for I don't even know if I'm being interviewed. If I'm standing on the school's borderline, maybe this information can trigger an interview invitation.

Thanks again

Dear brz,

Yes, you should go ahead and send it, requesting it be added to your application. Many applicants update their applications after submitting. It will not be seen as a desperate act.

Good luck,
Lisa
