2nd attempt GMAT score: 640 (Q:43, V:34).
1st attempt GMAT score 560(Q:44, V:21).
Now most important question.
Please evaluate my profile:
Presently, doing consulting work in utilities industry.
Masters in EE(USA) - specialiation power systems . GPA 3.7
Bachelors in EE(India).GPA- 3.5
Work exp: will be 5 years in 2 -3 months. (80% exp in energy industry).
Extra curricular activities: Not that good.

Target schools:
1 year MBA schools - ISB, Hyderabad in India; Great Lakes insitute of Management, Chennai
Which schools to target for part time or EMBA or 1 year MBA specializing in energy industry in USA?

My dilemma:

Option 1: Apply this year or focus on extra curricular and apply next year.

Option 2: Attempt GMAT 3rd time(shoot for 700+) , no focus on extra curricular and apply next year.

Dear crkgmat,

While your GPA is strong, your GMAT is average and possibly below the average of some of your target schools. You do have some different engineering experience than many other Indian applicants, so that should help to distinguish you to some degree. There are very few 1 year MBA programs in the US for people without a business undergraduate degree, so I would suggest you do some research to determine if there are any possible options for you. As for EMBA programs, you do not have enough experience for most of these programs yet as true executive MBA programs are designed for applicants with over 10 years experience. Part-time programs are plentiful, so you should have some options near you. Part-time programs are geared towards working professionals who wish to progress in either their current career path or to stay in the same industry/functional area. Whether or not you should wait depends on what your goals are and rationale for going to business school--these should also be a determining factor in the type of program you apply to (full-time or part-time). I think you should spend some time determining your rationale for business school in relation to your future career goals as way to determine what type of MBA program and when to apply.

Good luck,
Lisa
