Sailing around the world???
I'm Jealous dude! How do you find the time to email and post?!!!!

And HOW do you do it? (satellite phone)???

Anyhow, nobody can say that your profile isn't unique then :). I think with google + Yacht sailing + 3.9 on your resume your profile is in pretty darn good shape.

If you can beat the GMAT (shameless plug there), getting a 700+ then Top 10 schools may even be in range, and if not, then, well we'll see...

First get your score and then you can worry about that.

But overall things look preeeetty for starters, so concentrate all your energies on that test, cause it could be the game-changer for you. The two questions you will eventually have to answer is: why you took this time off for the trip and what it gives to you? and When will you have the time to prepare your applications? If you can settle those two items, you should be in pretty good shape.

And oh yeah.. Have fun on your trip around the world!!

Awesome, fun and different. Besides being an amazing experience, you will have some really good material from which to write essays. Schools understand that many Indians start in Engineering, even though they do not wish to focus on that area so I would not worry here. Just focus on getting the highest GMAT possible.

Also, I recommend applying for some real stretch schools. Your profile is so unique that you will probably receive acceptance(s) from schools with greater selectivity than some of those from which you receive dings.

Best of luck and have fun,

Thanks a lot Jon and Michael,

Right now I am on land. In between races. Will join the race back from Brisbane around new years, then all the way to SF through Singapore and Qingdao. Then from SF to Jamaica, NY and UK.

Your questions:
Q1. why you took this time off for the trip and what it gives to you?
A. I really don't know. But primarily I thought I wanted to do something with my life before I get too old for it or get really stuck in responsibilities. Secondly, I thought I could have become a professional sailor. But now the reality is Indian sports is all about cricket and I am growing old. I love my Google job.

Q2. and When will you have the time to prepare your applications?
Race gets over in June. I can start working as soon as I get off the boat.

Finally, I am becoming very skeptical about my gmat score. My scores have been fluctuating wildly between different company CATs. I will know in a week what the score is and will update it here. Instead of lowering my expectations, I'll push for the next week and hope for a improved score. Will take it from there.

Fingers crossed.

Thanks,
G

In your spare moments while travelling the world, introspect on deeper reasons for the trip besides the abstract "do something with my life" and apprehension of "stuck in responsibilities" which will not be your most powerful message.

Good luck with the GMAT!!!!!
