I'm looking to apply to top-tier US schools (list as of now: Kellogg, Haas, McCombs, possibly Fuqua) for Fall 2010 full time admission, and would be interested in hearing where you think I stand as of now and where I might stand when I re-take my GMAT. I'd focus on marketing and marketing strategy with a focus on the technology/high-tech area with my MBA.
I took my GMAT yesterday and scored a disappointing (for me) 650 (46Q 34V) even though I had been averaging around 710 on nearly all my practice tests (around 46Q, 43-45V). So I plan on re-taking that in late August because I know I can get 700+. I don't know what happened on the first test, but I'm looking at this as an opportunity to do even better than I thought I could.
So I'd be interested in hearing, if I scored 700+, how my profile might stack up for the schools I am interested in.
Other information about me is below:
-White male, 25, US citizen (living in Chicago)
-Graduated 2006 with BBA from Michigan with 3.8 GPA
-GMAT: 650 (46Q 34V) but will re-take
-3 years work experience (will be 4 by Fall 2010) at boutique new product development/marketing strategy consulting firm. Promoted twice in 2 years. Most recent promotion was into brand new company role where I manage clients and do analysis and have a direct report.
-Extracurriculars: Ran 2 full marathons in 2007 and 2008 and will be doing one half this August. Some volunteer work with running club and this year's full marathon in Chicago.
-Work experience:
*Done global consumer segmentation studies and developed global marketing strategies for Fortune 100 clients. About to be assigned to another two global marketing strategy/new product development projects in Europe.
*Been responsible for (analysis and/or management) up to 1/4 of company's annual revenue in projects.
*Wide variety of experience in CPG, durable goods, and some technology and sports new product development.
*Internally: Developed new internal business model for more efficient project processes. Developed new analyst training program to get new analysts up to speed faster.
-Other interesting facts: Been building computers since I was 13 years old. Also an avid poker player and do quantitative analysis of database of statistics which helped quantitative abilities at work.
Do you have any thoughts on my profile, schools to consider, or any other valuable information?
