Professional References In Family Business

Any thoughts on what to submit in place of a "supervisor's" professional recommendation when you're working in a family business? I imagine they'd assume bias if your rec is signed by someone with the same last name...

If it specifically asks for an LOR from a supervisor, you may want to give a short explanation of why you are not using a direct supervisor (but, you are correct, a recommendation from your dad isn't what they want!!)., I would suggest using clients or others who are not on the company "payroll" (using the company's lawyer or accountant presents problems as well). Your other recommendation can come from a volunteer activity or other extracurricular. The most important part about LORs is that they come from people who respect you and who are supportive of your goals. I'd always pick a person who will write fantastic things over someone who has an impressive title!!

I hope this helps!
