The hotel room costs $39 for each day, and x for each additional person.

If three people rent the room for one day and pay $21 each then all collectively pay $63.

63 - 39 = 24 is the additional rent for 2 people.
Therefore, value of x is 24/2 = 12.

Hence, C.

3 ppl spending a night in the room would have to pay 39+x+x for the night

Given that the 3 ppl end up paying $21 each so the total they pay is 21*3=63

From statement 1 and 2

39+x+x=63
39+2x=63
2x=24
x=12 hence C
