Can someone better explain the answer to question 98 in The official Guide for GMAT Review:

On a scale that measures the intensity of a certain phenomenon, a reading of n+1 corresponds to an intensity that is 10 times the intensity corresponding to a reading of n. On that scale, the intensity corresponding to a reading of 8 is how many times as great as the intensity corresponding to a reading of 3?
The answer is 10^5, but I really don't understand the solution given to get that answer.

n+1=10n
n+2=100n or (10^2)n
n+3=(10^3)n etc

Question asks about n+3, and n+8. n+8=(10^8)n
10^(8-3)=10^5
I don't know what to say, really. Three minutes to the biggest battle of our professional lives. You find out life's this game of inches, so is football. Because in either game - life or football - the margin for error is so small. I mean, one half a step too late or too early and you don't quite make it. One half second too slow, too fast and you don't quite catch it. I'll tell you this, in any fight it's the guy whose willing to die whose gonna win that inch. That's football guys, that's all it is. Now, what are you gonna do?
