Although Logitech's recent press release credits its success to the innovation in its product division, its future success hinges on how closely its products are related to those of Apple's.

A. how closely its products are related to those of Apple's
B. its close relationship with Apple
C. on the relationship between its products and Apple's
D. how closely it is related to Apple
E. how closely its products are related to Apple's

this is not a well-written question; the prompt sentence has at least two plausible interpretations, and so at least two of the answer choices could be considered correct.
in particular, we don't know whether (1) the logitech company itself needs to foster a close relationship with apple to succeed, or (2) there needs to be some similarity between its products and apple's products.
both of these are reasonable meanings. (perhaps one of them will seem ridiculous to people who know more about these companies than i do -- i really don't know -- but the gmat exam obviously wouldn't require such knowledge to resolve a question.)

if the correct interpretation is #1, then (b) qualifies as a correct answer.
if this is the correct meaning then (d) is not too far off, either, although the quality described in that choice ("how closely it is related to...") seems more to be a constant fact, rather than something that could conceivably change in the future.

if the correct interpretation is #2, then (e) works. also, in that case, nothing is wrong with (c) except for the repetition of "on"; if that's not a typo, that it definitely represents a type of error you would never see on an official gmac exam.

in fact, of all the answer choices here, the only one that actually contains an error type that gmac might actually test is (a), which contains a redundant possessive construction (using both "those of..." and "apple's").

bad problem! ignore. move on.
