SC past perfect

In the minds of many people living in England, before Australia was Australia, it was the antipodes, the opposite pole to civilization, an obscure and unimaginable place that was considered the end of the world.

(A) before Australia was Australia, it was the antipodes
(B) before there was Australia, it was the antipodes
(C) it was the antipodes that was Australia
(D) Australia was what was the antipodes
(E) Australia was what had been known as the antipodes


OA A

i know this has been discussed before but my concern is why not E ???

dont we need past perfect for going with the verb was considered ?

"Had been X" means X is no more.

in E, had been known as the antipodes--means Australia is no more antipodes. It changes the meaning of the sentence because Australia still is an antipode.

how could answer be B? B looks kinda wordy and it doesnt sound right to me, it should be A
