Expert replies

Hi Folks,

Could any of you please share examples/questions which involve "modifiers ending with prepositions" error. I am trying to understand this concept better, but finding it difficult to do so.

Maybe there is not that much to understand.

All that is going on is that ending a sentence with a preposition is considered sub optimal.

For instance, I need someone to play with. which has the preposition with at the end is considered wrong, or not so great, while on the other hand, I need someone with whom to play. is considered optimal.

Maybe the reason you are finding understanding all this to be challenging is that it's all debatable.

This writer does a good job of discussing this subject.
