smoking increases the risk of lung disease, and can complicate pregnancy, and increases the risk of low birth weight.

Smoking does three things:

1)Increases
2)Complicate
3) and increases

If this is the case it is B

but if low birth weight risk is attributed to complication of birth it is C&D ( same answer choices by the way) :)

b. can complicate pregnancy, and increases low birth weight risks.

c. and can complicate pregnancy by increasing the risks of low birth weight

d. and can complicate pregnancy by increasing the risks of low birth weight

showbu - in ur post both Options C) and D) are the same. I assume its a typo.

I looked around for this in some other forums and found these as the options C) and D)

(C) and can complicate pregnancy, increasing the risks of low birth weight
(D) and can complicate pregnancy by increasing the risks of low birth weight

I picked 'D' since I thought that the intent was to link the pregnancy complication to the low birth weights. But yes - as Logitech pointed out, we could have interpreted these are 2 separate effects in which case 'B' might have been better -
But what kept me away from 'B' was the fact that it said 'can complicate pregnancy and increases ...' - not parallel and symmetrical to the other parts of the sentence (i.e. increases the risk of lung disease)
