Practice Test GMAT Score 430 - I feel horrible

Hi everyone,

Just started studying for the GMAT using the Princeton Review, and I thought I would take the test today since I had three free hours.

I've only been studying for two weeks (quantitative), but I got a result of 430, which to me is really really bad. I need a minimum of 610 to get into the University I want.

This is an analysis of my results:

Integrated Reasoning 4 *
Quantitative 12 2
Verbal 35 74
Total 430 17

So what should I do? Do you think a 610 is attainable? I am an above-average graduate but I honestly feel like giving up.

Hi,

You have just started your prep and let me tell you anything is attainable. Depends on how badly you want it.

The good thing is you have a clear area of strength and weakness. A 35 in Verbal is a great start point (although you need to go down deeper and find what is keeping your score at 35 - is it SC/RC or CR).

Quant needs a lot of work. Your score suggests you are completely out of touch and need to work on your basics. I would suggest the Manhattan Strategy Guides as they really do work from the ground up. Better still if you think you really need to get your basics in order try khanacademy.org. The road will be slow but you can learn from the very begining and build your basics. Once you have done that you will see your scores move up rapidly to a respectable level.

All in all it depends on what you are ready to sacrifice to get a good score. You might feel all the harwork is taking you no where but not giving up is the name of the game. Just keep at it, 610 is achievable so don't worry.
