Marco Polo's travels are documented in his book, II Milione,which took him over seventeen years.

A. travels are documented in his book, II Milione,which took him over seventeen years
B. travels are documented in his book, II Milione,which took over seventeen years to travel
C. travels,which took him over seventeen years to complete, are documented in his book, II Milione
D. travels are documented in his book, II Milione,which took the explorer over seventeen years
E. travels,which having taken him over seventeen years, are documented in his book, II Milione

I have a doubt over the OA. will discuss more once someone posts the explanation.

yes the OA is C.

But I could not understand one thing here.

As we know that possesive noun can never be the antecedent of an subject or object pronoun.
In this case, object pronoun 'him' should refer to Marco Polo. But Marco Polo is never mentioned in the sentence.


e.g Jose's room is so messy that his mother calls him a pig [Incorrect]
Jose's room is so messy that his mother calls Jose a pig [Correct]

Infact currently in OA, 'him' is referring to Marco Polo's which according to me is incorrect.


Can you pls explan where I am wrong .

u r absolutely right. Posessive pronoun shud have the proper antecedent (possessive noun)

In A,B the meaning is somewhat like 'II Milione'(the book) took the author seventeen years and not the travels as it is intended to be.

D is also similar in the way that 'II Milione'(the book) took the explorer seventeen years

E sounds awkward and has also particliple issues

C takes care of all these problems in the best possible way
