Hi mmslf75
Here's a general review of Powerscore RC Bible :
This book is about 360 pages with at least half of it being reprints of RC passages from past LSATs and then a solution set following it, written in a similar style to their Deconstructing the LSAT books. The good news is that the solutions are pretty good. The bad news is that 1) they pull passages and passage snippets from all over the place (mostly from recent preptests) so those passages will be tainted if you go to do the preptests afterwards, and 2) the solutions are written from an after-the-fact sort of perspective so if you're someone who has trouble finishing in 8:45, the answers will always seem obvious afterwards but not so helpful when you're under the gun for time and have passage concepts all jumbled up in your head.
Pros:
1. Difficulty - Passages are longer and more complex than their GMAT counterparts. At times, questions can be quite difficult and convoluted.
2. Practice - There are about 100 real LSAT RC questions. There are also some exercises developed by Powerscore in the beginning of the book.
3. Discussion - The book does an excellent job at explaining RC and discussing strategies and technique.
4. Product Quality - Although a minor issue, the pages and book cover are of good quality.
Cons:
1. Intended Use - This book is an LSAT guide. Obviously, there will be some irrelevant topics covered. Reading some sections might actually do harm.
2. Price - At 38 dollars, this book cannot be considered cheap.
3. Size - The book is 360 pages long. Granted, a considerable portion of the book should be skipped, but this is a serious investment in time for most people.
4. Style - The book's content is extremely dense!
Hope this helps : )

PowerScore Bible for RC
Source: Beat The GMAT — Reading Comprehension |
It's curious that PowerScore hasn't put more effort into developing this book. Their other two GMAT books are highly regarded. I know that they're phenomenal at the LSATs, but if they're going to have the books created anyway then might as well make them the best?!?! no? haha

dragging thread away from topic, I know I'm poor at Verbal so far but for RC I found Manhattan RC helpful in general, there strategies worked for me. I've also heard PowerScore RC passages are harder than GMAT ones. RC needs practise with few strategies.

Haven't reviewed MGMAT's latest RC, but last I heard from the MGMAT staff they had updated the guide significantly in the last year. Would love to hear others' experiences with this book.

yeah, a review of the mgmat rc guide would be appreciated since i'm looking out for an rc book as well. could someone share their experience with the mgmat rc guide?
Sorry for my other thread. I didn't see this one. So basically what I gathered about the Powerscore Guide is that its great and the only real drawback is the price. Thanks.
if they're great is the price really a drawback?
opportunity cost...
