Hi,

I know this is a bit early, but I would like to get a head start on my 2012 MBA application. I am looking to apply to either a full time or a part time program. I would like to get your views on my profile and any suggestions on areas of improvement.

Indian, Female, Age-29
Masters in Communication from a top state school, GPA- 4.0 (instructor for public speaking class)
Bachelors- Industrial Engineering
GRE: 730Q / 570V

Experience:

6 years in various HR roles. Currently working as a People Development Manager at one of the leading IT firms in the US. I have 4 years of international work experience, and have managed people in the past.

Extra-curricular:
Established model for print ads and fashion shows.

Other than teaching a few times at a local elementary school, I do not have any other extensive volunteering experience.

Areas of interest: General Management / Marketing

Do you see any weaknesses in my background? What GMAT scores should I target to have a reasonable shot at one of the top 5 schools? Do you recommend any specific schools for the concentrations that I am looking at?

Thanks for your time!

Hi,

Thanks for your post. You certainly have a unique profile. You combination of experience and education is great, and a bit different (in a good way) than the average MBA applicant profile.

In regard to programs, there are a lot of options in terms of general management. From Stanford to Tuck, you can pretty much find a general management program to suit your interest. In regard to GMAT score, I would aim to score at least a 700 (think of it as a neutral score for top 10 programs). Pay particular attention to the quantitative portion since top bschools tend to look for a minimum of 80%.

Best,

Stacey
