The population of a town doubles every 5 years. If the population at the end of 2000 was 320000,what was it at the beginning of 1961?

(A)1250
(B)80000
(C)12500
(D)12000
(E)16000
It takes time and effort to explain, so if my comment helped you please press Thanks button :)

In 40 years population must have grown 2^(40/5) = 2^8 = 256times
Population at the end of 2000 = 320000
Population at the start of 1961 =320000/256 =1250, A

At the beginning of 1961 means end of 1960 ...
so from end of 1960 to end of 2000 = 40 years
since population doubles every 5 years... so P = 320000/2^(40/5) = 320000/2^8 = 320000/(32x2x2x2) = 10000/8 =1250 Ans A
