Population of city X and Y

The population of city X is 50 percent of the population of city Y. The population of City X is what percent of the total population of city X and city Y?

1. 25%
2. 33 1/3%
3. 40%
4. 50%
5. 66 2/3%

I got the correct ans., but I don't really understand what I did to get there... Could someone please explain?

Let the number of people in Y = 100.
Then the number of people in X = 50% of Y = 50.
X/(X+Y) = 50/(50+100) = 50/150 = 1/3 = 33 1/3 %.

The correct answer is B.
